Mammals of the Upper Mississippi River
Saturday, January 30 at 10:00 a.m.

What has fur (or hair), bears live young and has the ability to produce milk? If you guessed a mammal, than you’re right. But wait…there’s more! Mammals are extremely interesting creatures that come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. This program will teach the ins and outs of Mississippi River mammal identification and some interesting facts for you to share about these fascinating animals.

   

Merv & Suzanne Boten

Saturday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. 

The Brotens are from the Coulee Rehabilitation Center in Chaseburg, Wisconsin.  They will bring their special feathered friends, a red tailed hawk, an Eastern screech owl, a kestrel, and a saw whet owl to share with their audience.  These raptors are permanently disabled and serve as their educational ambassadors.  Merv & Suzanne have devoted their lives to caring for injured and disabled birds.

Wildlife Artist & Energy Therapist

Carole Mandernack has been a wildlife artist for over twenty-five years. With her main focus on birds of prey, she has truly enjoyed living in the Glen Haven, WI area where Bald Eagles abound in late fall and winter. Living in this natural area has presented many wonderful opportunities for her to view and interact with wildlife.

Then in the last ten years her interests broadened and she became certified as a Holistic Health Practitioner, with Energy Therapies being her specialty. Her business is located in the Lancaster Chiropractic office in Lancaster, WI.

   

Dianne Moller

Saturday, January 30 at 1:00 p.m. 

Dianne Moller, a state and federally license rehabilitator, environmental educator and falconer from Hoo’s Woods, Inc. Raptor Education Center is from Whitewater, Wisconsin.  Her program will be “up close & personal” and will provide an educational opportunity to understand and appreciate the co-existence between wildlife and man and the importance in preserving the world in which we live.  Dianne trains and handles birds for education.  Hoo’s Woods goal is to make education both meaningful and fun, while creating an atmosphere, which fosters respect for the land and the stewardship for all living things.

   
Kenny Salwey
Saturday, January 30 at 2:00 p.m.


Author, river guide, and veteran woodsman, Kenny Salwey will share his adventures of life along the Mississippi River. A native of Alma, Wisconsin, Kenny is a modern day hermit who has lived most of his life in the Mississippi river bottoms, coming to know the river ecosystem with an intimacy unavailable to most. Through Kenny’s eyes, you will learn about a true naturalist who provides raw advice about living off the land and gain a greater appreciation for life along the mighty Mississippi. His latest book is entitled The Old-Time River Rats: Tales of Bygone Days Along the Mississippi and will be available at Bald Eagle Days!
