Eckstein Memorial Library

Internet Access

The Eckstein Memorial Library has five computers with internet access available for public use. Also, Wireless (WiFi) Internet is now available at the Library.  You must be age 12 or older to use the internet computers. Children under the age of twelve may use the computers if accompanied by an adult. The internet computers may be used for one hour per patron per day. It you would like a computer at a certain time; you may reserve one by calling (608) 725-5838.

Internet Policy

INTERNET USE POLICY AND GUIDELINES

1. All users must register at the front desk before using the Public Access Internet Computers (PAIC). Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult when using the PAIC’s. The Eckstein Memorial Library assumes no responsibility for the use of the Internet by children.

2.Use of the library’s PAIC’s is limited to one (1) hour per patron per day. Time may be reserved in advance or taken on a walk-in basis. Persons more than 15 minutes late for a reserved session will forfeit their time.

3. Responsible, ethical use of the Internet resources includes:

a. Using resources for educational information and recreational purposes only: not for unauthorized, illegal, or unethical purposes.

b. Respecting the privacy of others by not misrepresenting oneself as another user.

c. Not attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords or data belonging to others.

d. Not seeking unauthorized access to any computer system, or damaging or altering the software components of any network or database, including the computers on which the software is installed at the Eckstein Memorial Library.

e. Making only authorized copies of copyrighted or licensed software pr data as specified by the U. S. Copyright law (Title 17, US> Code).

f. Not sending, receiving or displaying text or graphics which may reasonably be construed as obscene.

4. Use of the library’s PAIC’s may be revoked at any time for inappropriate conduct, including but not limited to the above- mentioned guidelines.

5. Users should be aware that information accessed via the Internet may be controversial, inaccurate or dated. The Eckstein Memorial Library makes a distinction between access to information via the Internet and selection of library materials. The library acquires materials based on the materials Collection Policy. Information accessed via the Internet is not subject to the same review.

6. Chat rooms and instant messaging are not allowed on the Eckstein Memorial Library PAIC’s.
